It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Mary Finnigan (née Sierszulski). Barbara passed away on July 6, 2023, and was predeceased by her husband Ernie Finnigan, of 52 years. Barbara is survived by 3 daughters, Pauline (Mark Forster), Christine Wickenheiser, and Tamara (John Thorpe); 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, her beloved dog, Milo, and an immense number of friends who cared for her deeply.
Barbara was born in 1942 in Warsaw, Poland to her mother Sylvia Kozloeski and father, Marian Sierszulski, later immigrating to Canada in 1950.
In 1961, Barbara travelled to Washington to get married to the love of her life, Ernie Finnigan. They spent their early marriage in New Westminster and Coquitlam where they raised their three daughters, spending time fishing, camping, and bowling together. From painting, crafting, macrame, and knitting, to joining Ernie on his woodworking ventures, Barb always had an eye for creativity, adding some colour to Ernie's woodworking creations, the perfect match.
In 2002, Barbara and Ernie moved to Chilliwack where they remained happily in retirement watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow into who they are today.
Barb was giving. Throughout her life donating her time to various organizations, as well as knitting hundreds of toques for individuals in need. After Ernie’s passing in 2013, she spent many hours volunteering at Heritage Village, where he spent his final years.
A memorial service for Barbara will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Henderson's Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack, BC V2P2S9, followed by a reception from 12:00 pm to 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in Barbara’s memory. This organization holds deep meaning to Barbara and her family.
