Berneice May Yacyshen

Bernice Yacyshen of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away on April 13, 2026, at Chilliwack General Hospital. The family would like to thank Dr. Markey for his exceptional support and care. Bernice is survived by her children Carolyne, Tom, Gertrude (Martin), Jo, her brother Fred (Sherril) and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Mike, sons Ed and Ron, and siblings John and Gladys.

Born on December 24th, 1936, in Lady Lake Saskatchewan. Bernice grew up in Gilbert Plains Manitoba where she met her husband at a restaurant they would later run together. After getting married, they moved to Saskatchewan where they farmed for several years and started their family.

In 1963 Bernice fulfilled her dream to move to BC where they settled in Chilliwack. Here they continued to grow their family and set down roots. Bernice was an extraordinary mother, sister and friend. A homemaker, hairdresser, baker, seamstress, gardener, traveller and an avid casino goer.

Ahead of her time, Bernice worked while she took care of her family. She brought a solid Ukrainian work ethic, to all that she did. She was fiercely devoted to those she loved, with a strength and determination that sustained her and those she loved. She will be greatly missed.

A visitation will be held at Henderson's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack, BC, V2P2S9, on April 24, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A reception will take place at Henderson's Funeral Home and Crematorium, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack , BC, V2P 2S9, on April 24, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, and a graveside service will follow at Chilliwack Cemeteries, 10010 Hillcrest Dr, Chilliwack, BC, V2P 7P8, on April 24, 2026, at 2:30 pm.
