Born on May 28, 1944, in Burnaby, BC, Carol proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, where she met the love of her life, John Schofield. After her time in the service, she devoted herself to raising their three daughters, creating a warm and loving home filled with laughter, creativity and care.
Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, and her sister, Sylvia. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Hazel van Laak and Shirley Scott (Lorne); her brother Gerald Blenkarn; and her daughters, Lynn van der Vlist (Chris), Mary May de Jong (Wiebe), and Tracy Nienow (Devin).
She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Alex van der Vlist, Chelsea Hoogenraad (Brad), Cassie Skerlak (Colton), Theresa Grey (Gavin), Michael de Jong, Brianna de Jong, and Jonathon Nienow; as well as her great-granddaughter Raelyn Hoogenraad.
Carol had quiet strength, a sharp mind, and a generous spirit. She was an avid reader, a talented sewer and knitter, and a dedicated Girl Guide leader during her daughters’ younger years. She gave her time freely and lived a life rooted in family, service, and creativity.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack, BC. A reception will follow immediately after the service.
