While his life had been challenging the last few years, his passing was dignified, peaceful, and full of family and love.
Don was born May 9, 1933, in Outlook, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Hope in 1943, where they owned and operated McCartney’s Consolidated Store ( later called Kirkland’s Consolidated store), located on Water Avenue and later moved to Wallace St.
After graduating high school, Don worked a few local jobs before settling in as a project supervisor with the Department of Highways (now MOT), where he put his meticulous mark on many highway builds throughout the province. He moved his family back to Hope in 1971 to put down roots while he continued working on projects in every corner of BC.
After retiring, he settled in Kelowna, where he enjoyed golfing and curling until health challenges required him to move back to Hope, and into Fraser Hope Lodge in December 2022.
Don is survived by his children, Larry (Jan), Laura (Rick) & Donna (Eric); grandchildren Tate, Trevor, Travis, Danielle, Kyle & Erika; 4 great-granddaughters, Kori, Winter, Ellen & Karter. He is also survived by his older brother Jim and family, many cousins, and his dear friend Olga Bernard.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Switzer and the staff at Fraser Hope Lodge for all their care and love for their father.
There will be a family gathering at a later date.
