Doreen Faye Hannah (nee Danard) passed away peacefully at home October 8, 2022. She is lovingly missed by her husband of 62 years, John Hannah, her daughter Cheryl, son Charles, daughter-in-law Susan, grandchildren Elizabeth, Theodore, and James. She is also survived by her sisters Joyce Linde and Louise Johnson, her brother, Keith Danard, and their families. Doreen was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba to Charles and Lydia Danard on March 30, 1938. The family moved to Enderby in 1945. While at the University of British Columbia studying medical laboratory technology, she met John on a blind date: they were married September 24, 1960. After a lifetime of moving due to John’s career as a civil engineer, Doreen and John retired to Hope in 2002 and then to the Garrison in Chilliwack in 2019. Doreen particularly enjoyed living in the Garrison, where she could easily walk to shops and restaurants and Cheryl lived close by.
Doreen loved music, playing both piano and organ for church services and choral groups. She also loved books: her homes were always full of them, and she shared that love with her grandchildren by providing them with a better selection of children’s literature than was available at local public libraries. She was active in her grandchildren’s lives either by visiting them in Canada or by arranging for them (and their parents) to visit her wherever she was living, be that Chile, Australia, Northern Alberta, and, most recently, BC. Visiting Grandma and Grandpa Hannah invariably involved adventure, whether that be earthquakes in Santiago, fishing in Great Slave Lake, driving in the Northwest Territories, or family ski trips at Christmas--even though she and John did not ski. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
