On March 7th 1928, Irene Ann Boulette was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was adopted when she was just a few months old by Ann Boulette. She was a city girl who fell in love with a country farm boy, named Clifford Lumb. They were married on April 3rd, 1948. They lived, worked and raised their family on their farm in Ebor, Manitoba. They raised two sons Lorey, Allen and a daughter Sharon. Their lives were spent busily working a grain and animal farm.
In the summer of 1954, Irene was contracted by special pioneers working unassigned territory, and thanks to the urging of her mother - who had started studying in the city - Irene also accepted a study with the Jehovah's Witnesses. By the winter of 1954, both Irene and Cliff were studying and making the needed changes to dedicate their lives to Jehovah. Despite great opposition from family, both Cliff and Irene were baptized on March 23rd, 1957, beginning their amazing career for Jehovah. Irene was privileged with the assignment of Literature Assistant, Account Assistant and often helped as Territory Assistant in their small congregation of Virden, Manitoba. She did this for several years until there were enough brothers in the congregation. She faithfully supported her husband as he served the congregation from the time they were baptized until his death. She then continued faithfully serving Jehovah as her hope for the future and devotion to Jehovah has always been foremost in her life. The more her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren put Jehovah first the prouder she became.
Cliff and Irene retired from farm life and moved to Chilliwack in 1968. Cliff and Irene were privileged to join the Chilliwack congregation, back when there was only one. The next 50 years were spent growing their spiritual family and making many cherished memories with many dear friends.
Cliff and Irene shared their love of travel. Irene's favorite place to travel was always Hawaii, but cruising was a close second best. Later in life, Irene was proud to be a Special Princess Cruise member - the closest she could get to being on the "The Love Boat" show, one of her favorite romantic comedies.
Irene was a true people person. She had a presence and beautiful personality that instantly people were attracted to. Her genuine friendliness and concern always assured you how much she cared about people. She had a natural, genuine way about her that made you feel like her dearest friend.
If you had the privilege of getting to know Irene you would have learned that this classy lady had a great many hobbies. She was an avid quilter, a talent she passed on to some of her children and grandchildren. Irene loved music and could often be found singing while working, specially while cooking. Cliff could always tell when something was wrong, or when she was stressed because that's the only time you would find her silent at work. She took pride in knowing practically every song in our theocractic songbook and at Christian meetings, she would hold her head high and sing our kingdom melodies from memory with a beautiful voice. She enjoyed watching musicals, reading, dining out and happy hour! But more than anything she enjoyed her 63 years of marriage to the love of her life and she found her greatest fulfillment in her family, watching it grow in size and serving Jehovah alongside those she loved.
Irene was predeceased by her loving husband, Clifford Lumb in 2008 and her son Allan Lumb in 2015. She is survived by her son Lorey & Trudy Lumb, grandchildren Dawneen & Paul Sumal with Abigail, Julianne, and Alisdair, Leanne Lumb & Carlo Aqualini with Michaele and Gabriel.
