Jamie Mark Pratt passed away in the company of his family on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Chilliwack, British Columbia, at the age of 65 years. Born August 26, 1959, Jamie was raised at Calling Horse Ranch in the then farm community of Springbank, west of Calgary, Alberta, surrounded by six siblings and a menagerie of farm animals. Jamie was a good man who appreciated and loved his friends and family.
Jamie is survived by his sisters, Marylyn Pelletier (Philip), Hilary Stewart, and Judy Owad; his brother, Ward Pratt (Sharon), and numerous nieces and nephews. Jamie was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Milli Pratt, his twin brother, Gary Pratt, and his sister and her husband, Robin and Donn Whenham. Jamie’s extended family included his sister-in-law Penny Pratt, her daughter, Cori, his twin brother’s children, Zachary Stark (Amy), Abbey O’Reilly (Mike) and Bradford Mormul. Also, held close to his heart was his Chilliwack family; his best friend Natasha, her daughter Katie (Kyle) and their two sons, his namesake, Luka Jamie, and older brother, Tyson; and Lobo and Sheryl, his birth siblings.
Childhood brought all kinds of antics, some filled with fun, and others filled with mischief, that come from living in the country in a family of seven children amid never-ending visitors and numerous animals of all shapes and sizes. Calling Horse Ranch was not only home to the Pratt family; it was a horse boarding stable where boarders, their children and their horses were an active part of ranch life. A love for horses was a given for the Pratt children with each of them having their own pony to love and to ride. With all the animals around the place and the numerous chores that came with them, Jamie had a knack for making connections with animals and developed a good work ethic.
When he left the ranch as an older teenager, Jamie did a bit of this and that, including a stint in the navy and a fair amount of time in Saskatoon, until, with Natasha’s encouragement, he moved to British Columbia, first to Agassiz and later to Chilliwack. Here Jamie found his permanent home and a community of friends, who truly care for each other. Jamie always liked to have a cat or two around his place and spent many hours in his final years enjoying the company of his beloved cats, Trixie and Salem. He loved spending time in the mountains, forests and waterways around the Fraser Valley area and enjoyed camping whenever the opportunity arose. Jamie returned to Alberta every now and then throughout the years to visit his family and attend weddings and other gatherings. In recent years, his mom and his sister, Marylyn, became a part of his Chilliwack community visiting often for his birthday and on other occasions.
Jamie will be missed. A Celebration of Life to give his loved ones an opportunity to share their memories will be held in Calgary. His ashes will be placed in an indoor columbarium in sight of twin Gary’s niche at Evergreen Cemetery in Edmonton.
