John was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on November 6, 1929. He was the seventh of nine children born to Herbert Ewart Forman and Jane Monroe Campbell.
John's faith in God was the guiding force in his life. He was always actively involved in a local church of Christ; serving, teaching, leading.
As John's father was a train engineer he grew to love railroading at an early age. John was a brakeman on the railroad from his mid teens until after his fifth child was born. He will be remembered in the Upper Fraser Valley and Fraser Canyon as the postmaster at Yarrow and Boston Bar post offices, as community service driver for Chilliwack Community Service, and as a friendly storyteller and lover of singing.
John is survived by his seven children: Velma Forman, Alice (Lindsay) Peterson, Joan (Steward) Gould, Shirley (Steve) Clarkson, Debbie (Jerry) Roy, John (Barbara) Forman, and Maureen (Burns) Matkin; brother Lloyd Forman, sister-in-law Lonnie (Jim) Forman; twenty-five grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife of nearly seventy-one years Margaret Alice (Bell) Forman, his eldest son Douglas Morley Forman, and seven of his eight siblings.
