It is with very heavy hearts that we announce sudden passing of Lawrence “Larry” Patrick Cain, of Chilliwack, BC on September 21st, 2022. Larry was born in Belleville, Ontario in 1945 to John and Ethel Cain, the oldest of their nine children.
Larry enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces at the young age of 16 and proudly served for 25 years. He served all over the world, including tours in Germany, Cyprus and Australia; as well as on Canadian bases from coast to coast. Upon his retirement from the Army, Larry stayed connected to the Forces through his membership with, and commitment to, the Royal Canadian Legion. After a year of retirement Larry discovered that he wasn’t cut out for a sedentary life so he later found employment with Conair Aviation, Commisionaires and Wal-mart.
An avid sportsman, Larry played on many hockey and baseball teams throughout his life. He also spent as much time golfing, fishing and camping as he possibly could.
Larry had a close circle of beloved friends, Acme Inc, who often accompanied him on his adventures. To them he was always “Sarge”, a nickname that followed him well beyond his promotion from Sergeant.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers Edward and Robert. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years Sandra; his children Donna (Jordon), Corey, Deanna (Jared), Diana (Charles) and Brian; his siblings Jim (Carol), Linda (Allan), Thomas (Heather), William (Judy), Patricia and Ronald (Theresa); 10 cherished grandchildren; 3 adored great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many extended relations.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Sunday, October 16th, 2022 at 1pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 5661 Vedder Rd., Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Legion Branch 295.
