Margarete was born on November 28, 1939, in Chortiza Colony, in what was then the Russian Empire and now Ukraine.
Margarete’s journey through life took her across continents. Alongside her grandfather, mother, and two brothers, she emigrated from Russia to Germany, and later to Paraguay. It was in Neuland, Paraguay that her lifelong love of birds began—with a pet parrot and a growing collection of bird ornaments that followed her throughout the years.
Eventually, Margarete and her family immigrated to Canada, with the help from the Krahn family. They settled in Greendale, where she met and married the love of her life, Henry. Together, they shared 53 beautiful years of marriage.
Margarete is lovingly remembered by her children Angela Bull (Rob Smith), Anita (Larry) Krause, and Andy (Cheryl) Wiebe; her cherished grandchildren Roschel Bull, Charlene (Justin) Findlay, Sheena (Marv) Durflinger, Kristyn Krause, Kraig Krause, Braedon Wiebe, and Alyssa Wiebe; and by her seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother David (Brigitte) Hildebrand, sister-in-law Erica Hildebrand, and husband John Wier.
The family is especially grateful to John Wier for the joy, companionship, and care he brought into Margarete’s life over the past five years.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Henry, her parents David & Maria (née Dyck) Hildebrand, and her brother Abe Hildebrand.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Coast Hotel, Chilliwack, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, https://cancer.ca/en/ in Margarete’s memory.
