He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend. He left behind a legacy of kindness, humour, and dedication.
Peter is survived by his cherished wife of 54 years, Kathy; his children, Jeff (Andra) and Jenny (Christian); and his grandchildren, Justine, Evan, Leo and Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard (2004) and his parents Alec (2007) and Phyllis (1993).
Born on September 1, 1945 in Karachi, India (now Pakistan), Peter was the son of the late Phyllis Noreen White and Alexander William Brown. He grew up in Vancouver, BC, attending Lord Byng high school and later UBC, where he graduated with a degree in Education in 1970. Following a career teaching Social Studies and History, he returned to UBC to complete a Masters degree in Education. He went on to successfully serve in several administrator roles in School District #33, first as a Vice Principal and then as a Principal, where he was well known for his strong work ethic, his connection to his students, his practical jokes, and his innovative ideas.
Outside of work, Peter had a passion for travel and community service. He spent 42 years with the Kiwanis Club of Sardis. He found great joy in participating in community work in Chilliwack. In addition to his volunteer activities, Peter was also a dedicated member of the BC Principals and Vice Principals Association, where he forged lifelong bonds with professionals across the province. Peter and Kathy loved to travel the world through international home exchanges, road trips with their trailer, and adventurous journeys near and far.
Peter adored his grandchildren. In his later years he proudly wore a shirt that said, "My favourite people call me Grandpa". He delighted in his four grandkids and appreciated sharing their humour and interests. He was a beloved Uncle and Great-Uncle to many family members.
Peter loved to laugh and never stopped trying out new material on his family and friends. He was also a die-hard Canucks, Whitecaps, and BC Lions fan. He touched many people with his robust love of life and cheerful nature. He lived well until the very end.
Our family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff of the Cascade Hospice, the doctors, nurses, and staff of 4 North at the Chilliwack General Hospital, the palliative care, occupational therapy and home support staff of Fraser Health, and Peter's family physician, Dr. Ralph Tudhope. Special thanks to the BC Cancer Agency, particularly Drs. Bahl and Zulfiqar, both of whom became very dear to Peter and Kathy throughout the cancer journey. All went above and beyond the call and for that we are forever grateful.
A celebration of life will be held at Fraser River Lodge, 7984 McDonald Rd S, Agassiz, BC on July 31st, 2025 from 2 pm - 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Peter Brown's memory either to Chilliwack Community Services or to Chilliwack Search and Rescue.
