On Saturday, September 6th, 2025, our mother, Rita DOREEN Wagner, passed away peacefully at the age of 92, surrounded by her loved ones. She will be deeply missed by her five children, one daughter-in-law, three son-in-laws, 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, one sister, one brother, one sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Family was an integral part of Mom’s life. She loved organizing and attending family reunions, whether they were small gatherings or big events. Remarkably, at the age of 81, she took the train on her own to meet up with other relatives in Dauphin, Manitoba, to attend Cousinfest 2013. While she enjoyed traveling internationally, her true love was taking road trips in her van and later her small motorhome to visit relatives in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Sometimes she would take relatives with her, and sometimes she would just wander to see what she could see.
Our kind, caring, and independent mother lived a truly productive and fulfilling life. She possessed a passion for various crafts, including crafting, cake decorating, flower making, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Her dream of owning her own craft store finally came true in 1986 when she opened Grandma’s Hobby House in Powell River, British Columbia.
Mom, a compassionate woman, was always willing to help others and enjoyed volunteering as much as possible. While living in Mackenzie, she held the esteemed position of District Commissioner for Girl Guides Canada. Later, when she lived in Prince George, she worked as a Care Aide at the Parkside Care Home.
Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the incredible nursing and support staff at The Residence In Mission for the unwavering kindness and care they provided to our mother over the past three years.
My sisters, brother, and I would like to extend an invitation to family and friends to join us in saying our final goodbyes as we lay our mother to rest alongside our father, Albert LLOYD Wagner, at the 100 Mile House Cemetery (920 Cariboo Trail, 100 Mile House, British Columbia). The interment will take place on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Following the interment, a Celebration Of Life will be held at the 108 Mile Ranch Community Hall (4924 Telqua Drive, 108 Mile Ranch, British Columbia). We would love to share all your favourite memories with us during this special time.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that you support a charity of your choice in memory of our mother.
Love You Mom - REST IN PEACE
Cathie (Larry), Sandra, Ollie (Derek), John (Carol), Liz (Paul)
