Major Robert Fredrick Dyck (ret) of the Salvation Army, went to be with his Savior and Lord on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021. As per his wishes, he was able to pass at his home surrounded by family. He was born August 15, 1939 in Watrous, Saskatchewan and spent his formative years growing up in the prairie provinces.
He followed God’s calling into Salvation Army officership in 1964 and met his wife, Miriam, who he married in 1967. Over the years they pastored churches in British Columbia, Ontario and Saskatchewan. They also spent time in youth ministry and correctional services. After his retirement in 2004 he continued to be active, working at Henderson’s Funeral Home on a part time basis. He found working there meaningful as it provided another opportunity for ministry.
Bob was an avid trombone player and was a member in the Chilliwack Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Fraser Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Cascadia Wind Ensemble, Gospel Brass and Songs of Praise.
He and Miriam had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed getting out in their motorhome, exploring and camping throughout North America.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Miriam, and two children, Wayne (& Jennifer) and Sheryl (& Rodney). He leaves behind five grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Joshua, Elise, Jordan, Abby and Sammy. He is also survived by his younger brother Art (& Lynn) and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Lucy Dyck and his sister Grace Goldsmith.
He will be dearly missed, however, we have peace knowing he is forever with the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
