

Roy Herbert Zuberbier passed away, February 1, 2015, in his devoted loving wife’s arms, at the Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 84 years, after struggling with various serious health issues over the past 10 years.
Roy was born in Mannville, Alberta on October 20, 1930, to Albert and Gladys Zuberbier. They moved back and forth from Mannville to the Chedderville, before settling in the Chedderville District at age 6 years. He attended elementary school at Chedderville, and Dovercourt and later they moved to Drummonds Creek south of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta where he rode his bike 5 miles into Rocky Mountain House to take grade nine. At age 14 he left school to work with his Dad for Rollier Logging. His job was piling green railroad ties and he recalls having to pack them on his shoulder stacking them 21 high. After working in the bush for several years, at age 18 started his truck driving career, when his boss handed him the keys and asked him to deliver fuel to an oil rig in the foothills of the Rockies. He drove fuel truck, through treacherous terrain for the next 30 years working continuously for White Rose Fuels (Bill Doyle,) Esso Bulk Fuels (Willis Teskey,) Gulf Servico, Apex Propane (Willis Teskey.) Roy and Evelyn moved to Chilliwack in 1981 after Roy fell in love with the Fraser Valley while vacationing in 1980. Roy worked on the Meadowlands Golf course for 9 years, Harrison Oak Tree Golf Course, 2 years, and Kinkora Golf Course (Don and Heather Forbes,) for 8 years before his health forced him to quit. He continued to play golf, despite his injuries. Roy held the course record for several years at the Pine Hills Gold Course in Rocky Mountain House. In 1992 he won the Nissen Amateur Series at Peace Portal Golf Course which then took him to play off in Scottsdale, Arizona. Roy and Evelyn spent many enjoyable hours on various golf courses. He bragged about having more holes-in-one than Evelyn. He had 8, Evelyn had 7. They were members of Meadowlands and Kinkora Golf Clubs, Rhythm Reelers Square Dance Club, Horseshoe Club, Rocky and Chilliwack Bowling Clubs. They wintered in Yuma, Arizona from 1989 for 20 years. They also enjoyed regular dancing and camping. Roy endured many injuries as well as cancer and liver failure. His determination kept him moving and enjoying life to the end.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn, his brother’s children Carrie (Sid) Lindsey, Charles, Misty (Chris), Barrie (Bonnie), Rory, Amanda, Ashley, Shawna (Mike) Christopher, Makayla, Katlyn, Hayley Parker (Cole), Jesslyn, Michael, Cheryl, Jordon, Morgan, Rhyder, Megan, and sister-in-law Laura (Harold) Nodeland. Extended family Crystal (Chad) Hailee, (A.J.) Rozzy, Brooke (Gerald) Serenedy, Alexander. Treena (Patrick) Lelan. Special cousin, Len (Doris) Schmelzer. Brother-in-law, Irvin (Lydia) Greenwood, nieces and nephews, Kyle (Suzanne) Sarah, Aaron, Shelly (Troy), Cassandra (Justin), Kennedy, Brooke. Sister-in-law, Darleen (Bill) MacKenzie, nieces and nephews, Jody (Darrel), Darren (Heather), Courtney, Ashton, Zachary, Glenda (Jay), Savannah, Indiana, Sean, Linda (Jim) Adrienne (Alberto), Eric, Rick (Teresa), Nikki (Steve), Kleigha, Kole, Kurtis (Courtney) Michael, MacKenzie, Christine, Titan. Numerous special cousins.
Roy was predeceased by his Grandparents, Parents, Gladys and Albert Zuberbier, brother, Lawrie, cousin Morrie, nephew Rocky, great niece Jennifer, Mother and Father-in-law, Elmer and Dessie Greenwood.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 13, 2015 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5108 50th Street, Rocky Mountain House, AB. If you so desire, donations may be made in lieu of flowers to a charity of your choice.
