San is survived by his wife of 66 years, Johanna (Anne), his children John, Andy(Wanda) and Sandra(Doug); grandchildren Alicia(Connor),Tyler(Nickie), Jenna(Kyle), Peter(Alyssa), and Chrissy(Daryl); and great grandchildren Jack, Ben, Sam, Kate, Maia, and Simon.
San was born June 3, 1937 in the village of Gendt, in The Netherlands. January 16,1959, he married Johanna Damen, also from Gendt, and the pair set sail for Canada, arriving in the Fraser Valley the end of
February. San worked for a couple of area dairy farmers, before purchasing his own herd in 1965. In 1968, he and Anne purchased their own farm on Prairie Central Road. Over the years San worked on
breeding show quality Holstein cows, and enjoyed showing cattle at the Chilliwack Fair and the PNE. The coffee pot was always on at “Sanando Holsteins.” In 1992 San and Anne sold their farm and purchased a small acreage on the outskirts of Agassiz, where he spent his days in his vegetable garden and greenhouse. In 2004, they moved to Sardis and in recent years lived at the Lynnwood Retirement Residence in Chilliwack.
The family would like to convey their appreciation for the wonderful support they received from Chilliwack Home Health and the staff at The Cascades for San’s care these past few months.
If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Chilliwack Alzheimer Society.
