Stephen George Laycock

September 23, 1970May 25, 2021

Stephen George Laycock, beloved husband, son, brother, and uncle passed away May 25, 2021 from an accidental overdose in Chilliwack, BC.

He will be remembered for his willingness to always lend a helping hand, his devotion to Cathy, sense of humor, and remarkable work ethic.

Steve was born September 23, 1970 in Lethbridge, AB, and currently called Chilliwack, BC home. His passions were music, reading, kindness to animals, the outdoors, and he was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan.

He struggled with drug addiction most of his life. It is heartbreaking to lose someone to addiction. The stigma surrounding addiction needs to change. We share this with the hope that if people in your life are struggling in a similar way you will reach out with love and compassion to support them in getting help.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Dunbar, his parents, Bill and Carol Laycock, six siblings: Dan Laycock (Beth), Deborah Forsyth (Nathan), Peter Laycock (LoraLee), Michael Laycock (Jennifer), Christine Laycock, and John Laycock, grandmother Raye Scalone, and fifteen nieces and nephews. Steve was precious to all of us and will be remembered every day.

Because of Covid, a private family memorial service has taken place in Chilliwack, BC.

In honor of Stephen, please donate to Narcotics Anonymous or your local recovery center.

Dear Bill and Carol,

I am heartbroken to learn about Stephen. This is so painful for you, I know. We lost a daughter to addiction three years ago and I agree with everything you wrote.

I hope his family can be comforted and will be able to recover from this. I pray you all will be blessed with peace and reassurance.

Kindest regards,
Dennis and Marilyn Dahl

Dearest Laycock family,
Our hearts are with yours as we have learned of Stephens passing. We love your family and our thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn his passing. His soul was indeed of great worth to our Father and his Son. Stephens life will be cherished through the eternities. This I know. Thank the Lord that life does not end here. Stephen still lives on and no longer struggles with the same things he struggled with here. Love Bruce and Lois Schaalje

Dear Laycock Family. I'm so sorry for your loss. I met Steve when we were just kids and he was always my favorite person to be around. I will never forget his excellent sense of humor, mischievous grin and chuckle and what a truly wonderful person he was. I'm heartbroken that he is gone and for all of his family. My deepest condolences.

Bill, Carol and family.
It is so hard to lose a loved one at any time.
But when they struggle with challenges it sometimes makes that harder.
Having just lost someone who took their own life. It is reinforced more than ever, how much there is a loving Savior who has given a way to release all who suffer challenges on this side of the veil. To give greater peace and a real chance to deal with our challenges.
With the pain of a passed loved one, know that there are so many praying and remembering you at this time and that you are loved.
