Theresa Whitney (nee Tremblay) was born in Alma, Quebec on June 12, 1932, to her parents, Henri and Marianne Tremblay. As the only girl, she and her six brothers were raised in the Lac St. Jean region of Quebec where her Father worked for the telephone company. During the early summer, the family and others in the region were known as “blueberry pickers” as they would camp and pick berries to sell to help fund clothing and school supplies. Theresa took on her first paying job as a legal assistant for the town Judge in St. Felicien. The family eventually moved to Roberval where she was introduced by her brother to Alton Whitney, a tall, strapping Military Policeman serving with the Canadian Air Force. She knew she had met the man she wanted to marry and they were soon wed on April 9th, 1957. Their life was an eventful one, with many postings to military bases in Quebec, New Brunswick, France, Germany and Chilliwack, BC, where they settled.
Those that came to know Theresa instantly fell in love with her outgoing personality, her ‘Joie de Vie’ and French-Canadian sense of humor. She had a talent for playing the piano and loved to sing cheerful verses like: “I love you with a peck, with my arms around your neck”. As a devoted wife and Mother, she truly lived and breathed for her husband and children. Pre-deceased by her daughter Susan, Theresa will be dearly missed by her five remaining children; Danny, Marie, Alan, David and Dale, as well as their spouses, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and Brother Robert Tremblay.
We look forward to seeing her in paradise when she’ll be reunited with her beloved husband, daughter, and many others! (Rev 21:3,4)
