Viggo Elvevoll

October 12, 1949July 17, 2019

Viggo Elvevoll passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17th at Maple Hill Hospice in Langley, BC at the age of 69.

Viggo was born on October 12th, 1949 in Mo i Rana, Norway to Leif and Helen (Olaug) Elvevoll. Viggo moved to Canada with his family in 1957 where they settled in New Westminster. In 1971 Viggo was accepted to the Vancouver Police Department. During his 32 years of service, Viggo worked in Patrol, V.I.I.U., Public Information Counter, Detectives North, VICE, C.L.E.U, and the Drug Unit.

Viggo loved the outdoors whether it was boating on the ocean, camping along the unbeaten path, or spending time enjoying the family cabin. He was dependable, hard working, entertaining, brave, compassionate, honourable, and dedicated. He had an excellent sense of humour and he will always be remembered for his legendary “antics”.

Viggo is lovingly remembered by his daughter Jennifer Elvevoll Coles, his son Kristopher Elvevoll and daughter-in-law Natalie McDonagh Elvevoll, his brother Hans Elvevoll, his 3 grandchildren Kris, Quinn and Bailey, and numerous additional family members, friends, and former colleagues.

The family would like to thank the countless doctors and nurses at Langley Memorial Hospital and the Maple Hill Hospice.

I am so very sorry to hear of Viggo’s passing.
I remember sitting by the classroom door when Viggo and his mom arrived for his first day of grade one at Lord Tweedsmuir school in New Westminster.
We later shared so many good memories and adventures growing up on Dublin Street in the late 50’s and early 60’s.
My sincere condolences to the family.

I was deeply sorry to hear that my cousin, Viggo, past away, way too soon. In spite of the distance, he was the glue that continued to keep contact with us, his Norwegian relatives. Throughout the years, he called us every Christmas eve, always around 6 am for us in Norway. I must admit, it was a hazzle getting up that early, but so worth it❤ The last year, I have had more contact with Viggo, and I am so happy and grateful for that❤ All my love to the family. Kjerstin

Viggo loved to sing at kareoke and Jessie and I would join and have a good time ,since we were good friends we got together many times and Viggo would brighten us up with his style of humour and give us history lessons about Norway. He is intrumental that my love Jessie and I met at the Saigon kareoke restaurant and he will be in our hearts forever.

So sorry for your loss. It was always a pleasure to run into Viggo in the hall or on a call. Truly one of the nicest fellows I worked with.

I was so sad to hear of Viggo's passing. Memories of him and his brother Hans "performing" at family functions still make me chuckle. It was always a fun and entertaining time when the brothers got together! Viggo was one of a kind and will be truly missed. I believe there is a wonderful family reunion taking place on the other side and that your dad is onto his next great adventure. Sending positive thoughts your way, Jen, Kris & family. Take care.

I got to know Viggo in the early 1980's via family connections and would see him several times a year for several decades socially. The things I will always remember about him were his high degree of intelligence, his wisdom about life, his dedication to public service, his mental & physical toughness plus a GREAT sense of humor. When Viggo & his brother Hans performed some of their various comedic improvisations for the family or told funny stories, get ready for some gut busting laughter. His parents Leif & Helen were pure gold as well and I have no doubt that they are all together again up in Valhalla spreading good cheer. My condolences to the family, R.I.P. Viggo ….

My deepest condolences Jennifer and Kristopher. Your father and I were good friends in our late teens and early twenties. We had lost touch but just reconnected and were planning a gettogether with the old gang in August. Viggo was so looking forward to seeing everyone again but it wasnt to be. Your dad always loved a good party and I will always remember his great smile. He loved life and will be missed but is now at peace.

RIP Virgo you will be sadly missed by many. You were always someone who you could count on to get the job done. A true dedicated police officer in every way.
