

Alan Francis McArthur, 67, of Salisbury passed away on January 31, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Born on February 11, 1944 in Greenville NC, he was the son of the late John Lindsay and Helen Campbell McArthur. Mr. McArthur was a standout athlete at Rose High School in Greenville, where he was a four letter athlete, excelling in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was a starter on the 1961 Shrine Bowl team. In 2007, he was inducted into the first Walk of Fame at Rose High. He attended UNC Chapel Hill where he played football and studied History. During that time, he played in the 1963 Gator Bowl, which was at that time the first bowl game that Carolina had won. His time spent at Chapel Hill fueled a lifelong passion for the Tarheels. He graduated from Chapel Hill with a Bachelors degree in History and later enrolled at Florida International University in Miami FL, where he earned a Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy. He worked as a Physical Therapist for almost 40 years, specializing in home health care. He truly loved what he did and had a special place in his heart for his patients. He retired in 2010 from Gentiva. Mr. McArthur was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Those left to cherish his memories are his longtime love, Helen S. Correll; and daughters Deborah McArthur Garrison (Dan) of Tucson, Arizona and Lisa McArthur Daly (Chris) of Brisbane, Australia. He is also survived by a brother, Ronald C. McArthur (Mary Alice) of Timberlake, NC and grandsons, Danny Garrison and Luke Daly. His beloved cat Happenin' survives him as well.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 6:00 til 8:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove, with funeral on Sunday at 3:00 at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastors Jerome Cloninger and Carroll Robinson, officiating.
