

Born August 31, 1936 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Hoyle Edward and Marie Faggart Sloop. Mr. Sloop honorably served his country with the US Army and had worked 18 years at Cannon Mills, before being called into the ministry. Called to preach in 1970, he attended Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest. Rev. Sloop pastored 5 churches in North Carolina; Covenant Mission, Concord, Seven Springs Baptist Church in Seven Springs (near Goldsboro), Camp Herman Baptist, Browns Summit (Greensboro), Turrentine Baptist, Mocksville and Central Baptist Church in Lexington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
Family members left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dora West Sloop, who he married September 3, 1960; his sons, Guy Anthony Sloop of Rockwell and Lee Eric sloop and wife, Suzanne, Lexington; his daughter, Crystal Sloop Oster and husband, Ryan, of Rockwell; his sister, Maxine Sloop Lentz; his brother, Gary Wayne Sloop and 6 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 12, 2013, from 1:00-3:00 pm at Phaniels Baptist Church in Rockwell. Funeral services to celebrate his life will begin at 3:00 in the church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Taylor, Rev. Greg Lentz, Rev. Harold Harper and Rev. Alfred Wright. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites.
