Bobbie was born on November 15, 1939 in a home in Lancaster, South Carolina to parents Clifford and Anne Marie McGee. He attended Lancaster South Carolina Schools and was a member of Rockwell Church of God. He retired with honor from Cone Mills after 45 years where he worked with dedication as a weave mill foreman.
After marrying his angel and sweetheart Gwen King he lived in Pineville for nine years before he settled in Rowan County and made his home on Dulin Ave to raise his family. Music was always a huge part of his life. He played bass guitar professionally and sang bass in many bands and on television in his younger years. He played in church and loved country, blue grass, and gospel music. He loved his family and was present at many family events. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his greatest joy. He was by his own estimation a “home body”. He always kept a clean kitchen and enjoyed his favorite channels on television while on his couch with his remote and dog by his side. He was loved by all of his neighbors as keeper of the street, keeping everyone in the know of who and what came and went up and down the street. His life was shaped by his rural upbringing in Lancaster, South Carolina. He cherished everything he received and all the gifts people gave him, smiling and thanking everyone for their gifts, pinning them up and keeping them forever. Bobbie was friendly with everyone and had an opinion and a saying for everything. In his later years, he struggled with vascular disease. He was looked after by his immediate family in addition to Horace and Lucy King, Betty Goodwin, and Clara Turner as well as many other friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Gwendolyn King McGee, his son Bobby Michael McGee and his wife Carolyn, and his daughter Heather “Tonya”leigh McGee Anderson and her husband Matthew. He follows the death of his mother and father and his two brothers, Dennis McGee and Cliff McGee Jr. is also survived by his sisters Marcine Gamble and her husband Carl of Heath Springs, SC, Sylvia Stroud and her husband Glenn of Lancaster, SC, and Yvonda Crenshaw of Lancaster, SC.
