

Born in Rowan County, NC on May 6, 1946, he was the son of the late A.R. “Red” Benfield and Bernice Allman Benfield.
In addition to his parents, Burton was also preceded in death by his brother, Reid Benfield and brother-in-law, Ricky Abernethy.
Burton was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and a former member of Landis Baptist Church for over 60 years. He enjoyed playing the trumpet, as well as the mandolin, bass guitar and acoustic guitar. He was an avid Bluegrass music lover.
After graduating high school, he received his associate degree from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Mechanical Drafting.
Some of his hobbies included restoring antique cars, working in his garage, and barn finds. For 8 years, he served as a Volunteer Fireman at Bostian Heights Fire Department and was the Vice President of Operations at Taylor Clay Products for 61 years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Morris Benfield; son, Mark Shane Benfield (fiancé, Anna Reichert) and daughter, Melissa Benfield (fiancé, Randy DeBruhl); three grandchildren, Wyatt Benfield, Miley Benfield and Amber Crucian and one great-grandson, Lincoln Crucian.
Burton is further survived by his brother, Mike Benfield (Martha); sister, Vickie Abernethy; brother-in-law, Gary Morris; sister-in-law, Mary Benfield and his furry canine friend, Harper.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church.
The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Rev. Samuel Mills and Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
