

She married James Edward Turrentine on August, 19, 1949. Edd and Clara were married for 54 years upon his death on June 17, 2003. They enjoyed traveling, fine dining, and antiquing together.
Mrs. Turrentine was the daughter of the late Ditzo McLaughlin and Gertrude Sloop McLaughlin. Educated in the Rowan County Schools, she was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College, majoring in Education. She was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church in China Grove, serving as a deacon, Bible school Director, Sunday School Teacher Women on Mission and her senior group, OASIS.
Professionally, she taught 2nd grade at Enochville for two years and 1st Grade at Landis Elementary School for 40 years. Her love was teaching her students to read with the Sally, Dick and Jane readers.
Mrs. Turrentine was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Rowan and the Alpha, Delta Kappa Sorority. She was active in Meals on Wheels, Backyard Bible Schools, and counseling at The Billy Graham Crusuades. Her art of serving food went on to her family where she was known for her baking cookies, cheese crackers and other delicious treats
.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Foil McLaughlin, Martin McLaughlin and Bob McLaughlin, as well as her sister Virginia Sutton.
Those left with cherished memories include her daughter Jo Turrentine Sorrell (Stephen), grandchildren; Nathan Stowe (Erin), Katie Koppelmann (Roy) and Bonnie Strader and Zachary Hudson-Sorrell. Great Grandchildren are Brady Strader, Casey Koppelmann, Caroline Koppelmann and Carter Koppelmann.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September, 4, 2022 from 3:00 pm till 4:00 pm at First Baptist Church in China Grove with funeral services to follow at 4:00 pm also at the church with Pastors Trent Drye and Steve Wilson, officiating.
The family will be in the fellowship hall after the funeral for reception. Burial will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 11 am at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, NC.
Clara Elizabeth Turrentine leaves behind a loving legacy for those who called her Babe, (husband, Edd), Mama, Grandmama, GiGi, Sis, Aunt Clara, Miss Clara and Mrs. Turrentine.
