

Clarence “Bernard” Hoosier, 84, of Taylorsville, NC, passed away Thursday morning, September 3, 2026, at Valley Nursing Home in Taylorsville, NC. Born March 4,1942 in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Clarence Wilson Hooiser and Mabel Shillinglaw Funderburk of Landis, NC.
Bernard graduated from Landis High School and earned his Business Administration certification from North State Business College. During his career, he earned various employee service awards from Rowan Distributing Co., Flowers Baking Co., and Food Lion Inc. He retired from Food Lion as a truck driver in 2008.
After his retirement from Food Lion, Bernard enjoyed volunteering in the community as a part-time elementary school bus driver and at the Salvation Army Store in Taylorsville, NC. Bernard never met a stranger, and he enjoyed helping others without receiving any recognition.
Bernard enjoyed spending time with his faithful fur baby and companion, JoJo. They enjoyed daily golf cart rides to the mailbox and going down to the creek. He also enjoyed working on his n-scale model train layout and displaying his model cars as well as doing genealogy research on his family with his cousin Renee Miller Simmons.
He was a member at Lutheran Chapel Church, China Grove and attended Mariah’s Chapel, Lenoir, NC, after moving to Taylorsville.
Family members left with cherished memories include his brothers, Leon Hoosier of North Wilkesboro, NC, and Daniel Hoosier of Florida; sister, Becky (Randy) Van Gorder of Charleston, SC; daughter, Melissa Hoosier Drye (Scott) of Faith, NC; sons, Michael Hoosier (Annette) and David Hoosier (Melissa) of Salisbury, NC; eight grandchildren, Austin Hoosier (Laura), Abbey Hoosier West (Cody), Kaitlin and McKenzie Drye, Dakerius, Matthew, Alan and Lindsey Hoosier; and three great-grandchildren, Dakerius Hoosier Jr., Zavaya Baker and Nolan Hoosier.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 12 PM to 1 PM at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mr. Hoosier’s life will begin at 1 PM in the Linn Honeycutt chapel, conducted by the Rev. Billy Sechrist, Pastor, West Park Baptist Church, Rockwell, NC. A private family burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.
