Crawford "Junior" Felker Sloop

Mr. Crawford Felker Sloop (Junior), age 97 of Salisbury, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021 at his home after a period of declining health. Born November 26, 1923 in Rowan County, Junior was the son of the late Neri Crawford Sloop and Margaret Felker Sloop. In addition to his parents, his wife of 59 years, Eva Haynes Sloop, his brothers, Charlie, Marvin, John, Robert, Albert, Otho, and Sam Sloop and his sister, Geneva Sloop O’Neill all preceded him in death. Junior was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church. He served on the Church Council, was President of the Lutheran Men, Sunday school treasurer and was a Life Member of the Lutheran Men in Mission.

After graduating from high school, Junior went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army serving in Belgium and France in Company C with the M.P. Battalion. He received the Purple Heart for being wounded during his service. Junior spent his career after his service working as a foreman in Cannon Mills Plant 8. He was a lifelong member of Locke Fire Department, serving over 30 years with them. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing in his pond and gardening. He also loved watching the Atlanta Braves and Carolina Panthers. Prior to his declining health, he looked forward to sharing a meal each day with one of his special nieces or nephews. He was a kind and gentle man who lived a life of service and helping others.

Those left to cherish his memory are numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Junior will be Saturday, July 3, 2021 from 1:00 – 2:00pm at Grace Lutheran Church. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00pm officiated by Rev. Gene Bost. Burial with Full Military Honors will be at Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery immediately after the Funeral Service.
