I am so deeply sorry for the loss of such an extraordinary woman. She was not only a proud veteran but also a soul with a heart of gold and a spirit that touched everyone around her. Her strength, kindness, and courage will never be forgotten. May her legacy live on in the countless lives she inspired, and may her memory always be a blessing.

It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences on the passing of Dana Hutson—a dedicated military veteran, a beacon of resilience, and a sister to all who served alongside her. Though I only knew Dana through our shared experience in the Wounded Warrior Project’s Female Project Odyssey at Banning Mills, her presence left an indelible mark on every life she touched.  

At Banning Mills, Dana’s strength and compassion forged a sanctuary for healing. As part of a courageous cohort of 13 women who had each weathered the storms of service and personal struggle, she embodied the spirit of solidarity. In that circle of trust, where vulnerability became our shared language, Dana’s wisdom and empathy helped transform pain into purpose. She understood the weight of invisible wounds, yet her unwavering support reminded us all that we were never alone. Her ability to unite others—creating a tapestry of resilience from fractured spirits—was nothing short of extraordinary .  

Dana’s military service was a testament to her courage, but her truest legacy lies in how she continued to serve after the uniform. In Project Odyssey, she became a pillar for her sisters, offering not just camaraderie but a lifeline. She listened without judgment, advocated fiercely, and carried others’ burdens as if they were her own. Her work exemplified the "syncretic" power of shared healing—a fusion of brokenness and hope that redefined what it meant to be strong .  

Beyond the retreat, Dana’s commitment to her fellow warriors never wavered. She navigated her own battles with a grace that inspired us, turning personal trials into fuel for collective uplift. Her laughter was a balm; her honesty, a compass. In moments when the path seemed insurmountable, Dana’s steadfast presence reminded us: "We are the architects of our own renewal."

I took care of her briefly at the VA. I was hopeful she would overcome. I am sorry for your loss.

Dana was a very sweet soul. I truly enjoyed her visits. She will be dearly missed.

You went above to help me surprise my wife for our 25yr vow renewal.

We had to take that first traditional dip together.

I was honored to build you a fly rod, be your guide and see you get your first trout with a fly rod I had the honor to build you. We sure did have some awesome adventures. You were more than a friend, you became the sister that I never had. My wife love you (I just didnt like it when you both teamed up against me and gave me a talking to or made fun of me 😂 ) but we sure did have some fun. You brought me into your family and I don’t have the words to describe how honored I am. You made a huge impact on many and You’re gone from this earth but you still live through all of us. My heart is heavy but I’m blessed to have had you in my life and my family lives. I Love you sis. Until we meet again.

Met Dana the first time at Badin Lake at my first Operation North State fishing festival. 
My first event and they put a WOMAN in the boat with me. First thought,,, What a day this is gona be. LOL
It turned into a great day,I met a real trooper that day.
Dana fished with me several times over the years, Always a good time .
