Darlene E. McCorkle

Mrs. Darlene Ellen McCorkle, age 77 of China Grove, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Liberty Commons in Salisbury after a period of declining health. Born June 3, 1943 in St. Louis, MO, to the late Allen Finke and Helen Jablonski Finke. Darlene was a longtime member of Landmark Church.

Darlene spent the early part of her career working at China Grove Cotton Mill. She decided her calling was in counseling so she went to Pfeiffer College, then on to the UNC Chapel Hill continuing her education in social work. She spent the next 15 years with Hospice of Rowan County as a Bereavement Counselor where her love for helping others really shined. She loved to read and enjoyed setting up recreational events with her family as they meant everything to her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gene McCorkle of the home; daughters, Sahria Weast (Dean), Cochoan Jackson, Kristen Charles (Bill) and Karla Worley (Gregg). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Clint Erwin (Amanda), Victoria Little (Jesse), Britany Kirk (Kevin), Maisie Worley, Josie Worley, and Anslie Worley. She also leaves behind one brother and three sisters.

A Private Memorial Service for Darlene will be held for at a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. McCorkle.

I worked with Darlene at Hospice and she was such a special person. I remember when she and my son went to the movies together and he could not stop talking about what a good time he had with her. She bought him candy, and pizza before he came home. My prayers are with Gene and the family.
