February 11, 1952March 12, 2021

Dorothy Ann Coble, 69, died peacefully on Friday, March 12, 2021 after an extended illness at Compass Healthcare and Rehab in Spencer, NC. Born on February 11, 1952 in Greensboro, NC she was the daughter of the late Henry Freshwater and Mary (Spencer) Coble. Dorothy graduated in 1970 from Mt. Airy High School, Mt Airy, NC where she was a member of the band and a majorette. In 1976, she graduated from Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC. She taught in the Rowan Salisbury School System.

Dorothy had a love for knitting, acrylic painting and making jewelry. She shared the fruits of these passions with family and friends. Her love of animals, especially cats, was a constant in her life. She quickly took care of any stray cat she came across. She enjoyed reading to the fullest, often reading more than one book at a time.

While living in Rowan County she attended Second Presbyterian Church in Salisbury and New Hope Presbyterian Church in China Grove. She was devoted to her church and a dedicated church member.

Those left to cherish Dorothy are her sister, Shari Bivens (Butch); niece, Brie Bivens-Hager (Jeff); and great-niece, Faith Hager.

The family would like to thank the staff of Compass Healthcare and Rehab for the smiles, dedication and compassion they shared with Dorothy. Her visits with Rosie gave her extra joy. Many thanks to her special friend, Bill Bowers, who brought a smile to her face when he visited and for keeping in touch with her family.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private Graveside service for the immediate family will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor James Byers of New Hope Presbyterian Church will officiate. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested you kindly remember Dorothy with a memorial in her honor to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left for the family at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Ms. Coble.
