Born in Randolph County on May 9, 1947, he was the son of the late O.K. Towell and Marie Cress Towell.
Mr. Towell graduated from South Rowan High School and served in the United States Navy from 1965-1969. He later worked in steel construction.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Douglas William Towell, Jr; daughter, Gina T. Cook (Michael); grandchildren, Stephanie Cook, Chase Cook, Douglas Towell, III, Andrew Towell and Katelyn Towell; and one great-granddaughter, Gracelyn Towell.
