

Mr. Eugene Willard Hawks, 84 of Landis, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at his residence. Born on June 29, 1932 in Sharon Connecticut, he was the son of the late Allard and Mary Kibbie Hawks. He served his country in the US Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War. Mr. Hawks was an active member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church where he was a member of the United Methodist Men and was a co-founder of the Food Pantry and Community Garden. Mr Hawks was a former member of the Landis Lions Club and American Legion Post 146. He enjoyed golfing and growing tomatoes. He retired after 35 years of service from IBM and after 10 years as a photographer with Auto Trader. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his sister, Faith deRoeck. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Pamela Burns Hawks and his children, Susan Boger (Sammie), Tammy Jones, Cindy Thompson, Keith Miller (Kelly), Lance Miller (Tammy)and Jolene Henning (Keith) as well as his brother Edwin Hawks (Margarita). Also surviving him are his 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren as well as Toby, his pet bassett hound.
Visitation will be on Friday from 6:00 til 8:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove, with funeral on Saturday at North Kannapolis United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Rev. Ron Hartman, minister.
