Evelyn was born on January 17, 1954, in China Grove, North Carolina, to the late David and Opal Lipe. She was a 1972 graduate of South Rowan High School.
Evelyn devoted her life to her family, serving as a loving homemaker while also spending time working in the public sector. Her greatest priority was raising her sons and caring for her home.
She was known for being loving and caring, with a strong-willed and protective nature, and a deep devotion to her family. Evelyn was passionate about the things she believed in and never hesitated to stand up for those she loved. She had a lifelong love for animals, especially dogs, cats, horses, and birds, and she could not bear to see an animal hurt—even on television. She also enjoyed watching soap operas and spending time with her grandchildren, who brought her great joy.
Evelyn was a member of South China Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard Carlton Waldrop; her sons, Richard Ryan Waldrop and David Mark Waldrop; her grandchildren, Constance Waldrop, Chelsea Waldrop, Andrew Waldrop, and Kaileona Waldrop; and her sisters, Nancy Corriher and Shirley Lipe.
