One of the best memories I have of my mother, Gladys Dove Whittington, is that every night when she said her prayers (and do not be a hurry if you were there to say them with her), she would call each one of her children's, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, spouses of each son or daughter, by name in prayer and ask God to help up to be in His will all the days of our lives.   Mom did this prayer from the time Millie was born in 1939 until she went to be with Dad and her children and grandchildren in 2018.  I miss her very much and I hope she will intercede to the Father for me while I remain on this earth.

GOOD-BYE MOM, I LOVE YOU, I MISS YOU AND I THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DID FOR ME TO HELP ME TO BE A BETTER PERSON.   TELL DAD I HAVE MISSED HIM SO MUCH AND IT HAS BEEN HARD WHEN I THINK OF THE GODLY LIFE HE LIVED WHILE HE WAS WITH US.

I would like to write a few words about Gladys Whittington.  What an amazing lady she was!  She loved everybody she came in contact with.  We had a lot of fun in the beauty shop when she came in to get her hair done.  Before she would leave, I had to sit down fifteen minutes and talk with her.  Then, she was ready to go.  I thoroughly enjoyed that time we shared.  I will miss her very much; especially her beautiful smile.  Looking forward to seeing her in Heaven.

My Mother was only 16 years old when I was born. Her mother had died just 4 years earlier and life demanded that she must mature far beyond her years and she did. When my sister Millie and her daughter Sharon died in an automobile accident, we wondered how Mother would survive the situation. Millie and her family atteneded Dr. Mark Williams father's Church in Wichita Falls, TX, at the time, and Pastor Willians was a great comfort to the family and conducted their funeral. Mother was like the Rock of Gibraltar when this happened. While so many of us were  at a point of uncertainty and desperation, Mother had a resilience and strength that sustained us all. This is just one example of how she taught us the Biblical principle throughout her life that the Apostle Paul taught Timothy, and that is to endure hardness as a good soldier of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! She taught us this principle works in every situation. When I was like the Prodigal Son who had gone astray, she never gave up on me. She continued to pray for me. Today after 57 years in the Ministry, I can say without a doubt that it was the prayers of my Mother and by the Grace of God that I am still on the Battlefield preaching the Gospel! Thank you, Mother, for all of us that you inspired and helped along the way! Your reward will certainly be great in Heaven, as it was here on earth.

How saddened I was to receive the news of the passing of your precious mother and our mother in the Lord, Gladys Whittington.  I have no hesitation to say that Sister Whittington was a saint.  She along with her husband, Reverend A.B. Whittington, gave a lifetime of faithful service to the Church of God, and I could not be more grateful for their love and sacrifice.  Together they ministered for more than half of a century and their labors resulted in the rescue of many women and men whose names are now written in the Book of Life.  Her greatest influence, however, was the Godly example she set for her family.  She loved purely, prayed fervently, and refused to give up on any who were struggling. As a result, today her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren rise to bless her.

I am particularly thankful for the love, grace, and encouragement she gave to me.  Anytime my travels would take me to North Carolina for a speaking engagement, I would have the opportunity to see her and receive her warm embrace.  

Today she joins the general assembly of the firstborn in heaven and is reunited with her parents, husband, Milly, Peggy, Sharon, and David.

In the words of King Lemuel, Many daughters have done nobly but [she] excels them all (Proverbs 31:29).

Though we sorrow, we do not as those who have no hope.  Joy will come in the morning.

May the God of all comfort encourage your heart as together we anxiously wait for the return of His Son.

Mom,
      Proverbs 31:10 asks. Who  can find a virtuous woman?  I can answer that question. I found one. I found one in you. Actually you found me because you brought me into this world. And I am so thankful that God allowed you to be my Mother, and me to be your Son.
     And you meet so many of the other requirements in that chapter. Although you never had much of this world's goods, your price is far above rubies. Dad trusted completely in you, and you did him good all of your married life. 
     You worked all of your life serving God, your family, and others. I so vividly remember the nights that you not only stayed up to check on us, but to call our names in prayer. Thank you for every prayer you prayed. Those prayers are one of the things that I will miss the most.
     ALL OF YOUR CHILDREN RISE UP AND CALL YOU BLESSED. And so many others whose lives you touched do so as well.
     You excelled as a Mother, and set the example for others to follow. You feared the Lord, and not only do multitudes still praise you, your works do also.
     Although I miss you more than words can say, I would not bring you back. But I do make you a promise. One day I'll join you in that in that eternal home of the soul. So until then rest on. You earned it, and deserve it.

My mom, Gladys Dove Whittington, was an exceptional woman. You were truly blessed if you ever came in contact with her. If you took her anywhere, people were drawn to her. 
Every time I went to buy a card for mom on any special occasion, I always had a hard time choosing the right card. I always wanted to find the perfect card that said that my mom was godly, loving, beautiful, honest, true, outstanding, kind, sympathetic, caring, unselfish, loyal, giving, forgiving, sweet, faithful, strong, wonderful and so much more. Mom was my best friend.
And mom was my hero. Each of us are given a measure of faith and mom used hers to the fullest as she prayed for her family, friends and even strangers. She fought a good fight, she kept the faith and she is now at rest with the Lord.
I will forever miss you until we meet again. I love you mom.

What a legacy of life and ministry A. B. & Gladys Whittington left for us!  They were an exemplary ministerial couple in the Church of God for many years.  Sister Whittington was an affirming, encouraging mother to her children and a spiritual mother to many of us young preachers and Christians.  I appreciate her love and encouragement, and feel honored to have known the Whittingtons and am glad to call their children my friends.  May God bless the memories of Gladys Whittington, and may she truly enjoy her Heavenly home in the presence of her Lord and her loved ones gone before!

At the time, I was just as surprised as you, your dad, & everyone else that she embraced me the way that she did. That was one of the few real spiritual experiences that I've had in my life. She gave me the gift of feeling special, feeling noticed, feeling loved unconditionally in spite of my sins & transgressions. Not to be too formal about it, but there's never been a doubt in my mind that God was right there with us, speaking to her the entire time. I've always believed that the reason she felt the way that she did, was because she could sense that I was genuine & sincere. I was there with you & Todd, because I love both of you, and I love your dad. I had nothing to really offer, or bring to the table, and I had nothing to gain from it either. I was there for reasons that I'm proud of and grateful for. I believe she knew that, and for her to acknowledge, validate, & embrace me the way that she did, it was an experience I'll never forget. I knew it was extraordinarily special, because of your dad's reaction to it. He had me call her on her birthday and speak to her a time or two after that. It meant the world to me, because I felt special to someone. I know that is selfish, but it was truly humbling. I'm truly sorry to hear of her passing, but she is most certainly in Heaven smiling down on all of us!!!

My Mom, Gladys Dove Whittington or as some of us called her Mama Dove was the best Mom in the world.  With 10 children to take care of she never complained one time.  Mom was dedicated to her family including all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As I grew up I would always see my Mom reading her Bible and studying her Sunday School lessons.  One thing that stood out to me the most was she called all of her children's name in prayer everyday.

Mom had a God given talent to know when someone was sick or hurting and needed someone to say a prayer for them.  Her life was God first, family second and all her friends.

Since Mom passed away I have asked several times, Who will be praying for me now.  Thank God that He gave her to us for so many years.

I love you Mom and I await the day that we meet again in Heaven where we never get old or sick but all is peace and joy in the presence of God.

Sis Whittington will be truly missed. I will miss giving her hugs on Sunday mornings and coming and seeing her when she wasn't able to get out and also stopping by and dropping off treat bags from our church and sitting with her and the family and just talking and saying a little prayer. Ma will be greatly missed by us all at Big Elm, I'm praying for you all, Kay, Paul, Joel and Trish and Ray and the rest of the family I love you all. It was a joy of taking care of Ma, I will always remember her saying ain't she pretty, I love you, pretty dress. I said thank you Ma I love you. Sister Whittington was one of my favorite Godly friends.  She was very special to our family.  She will be missed but I know she is happy with her Lord and Savior.  May God's Peace cover her family.  Love you all.  Cuz agrees.

Gladys' life was filled with love for her family and friends and her service to God.Her legacy speaks to that as well as the depth of loss we are all feeling right now. God's promise for eternal life gives us the assurance that we will be with her again in regal glory in our Father's kingdom. With heartfelt love and prayers.

Saying "so long" to your parents is one of the hardest things you will ever do. Knowing where they are and looking forward to seeing them again will ease the pain of their absence. Please know that all of you are in our thoughts as you take this strange journey of grief, rejoicing that your precious Mother has made it home and joined your dad on the other side... but wondering how you will go on here without her. So blessed to have known her and your dad.
