

Born on February 6, 1921 in Hillsborough, NC, he was the son of the late Haywood Samuel and Alice Brown King. Rev. King was educated in the Hillsborough schools and was a member of China Grove Church of God. Earlier in life, he worked at Eno Textile Mill, and broadcasted music and ministry on the radio, singing "Give me a RC Cola and a Moonpie". At the age of 28, Rev. King was called into the ministry and served for a distinguished 67 years. As a Church of God minister, he served many North Carolina communities. In his 67 years, he helped establish churches, build parsonages, minister to lost souls, serve on leaderships boards, and served as district pastor on several occasions. On August 4th, 1958, he became an ordained a bishop for the Church of God. After his retirement, him and his beloved wife Lucy of 71 years, continued to minister to the community at Gensesis Healthcare. In addition to his ministry, he was an award winning insurance salesman . Rev. King, was a humble, God fearing man which had a great love of family. He was a kind man to anyone who met him. Rev. King was viewed by everyone as a “jack of all trades.” His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and gardening. His gardening caused him to become a featured gardener in the Salisbury Post. In addition to his parents, Rev. King was preceded in death by his wife Lucy Crabtree King in 2012 and also his daughter Linda King Livingston and her husband David, son Horace Odell King Jr., grandson Bobby Michael McGee Sr. and son-in-law Bobbie Lee McGee. Those left to cherish his memory are daughters Gwendolyn K. McGee of China Grove, Clara K. Turner Ferguson (Gerry) of Indian Trail, Betty King Goodwin (David) of Kannapolis and son Phillip King (Debbie) of Charlotte. He had 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday October 27th from 6:30-8:30 PM at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. All other times the family will be at their respective homes, with funeral on Tuesday October 28th at 2:00 PM at China Grove Church of God with Rev. Eugene Sprinkle, Rev. Steve Sprinkle and son Rev.
