James Leonard Corriher

James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley Freeze Corriher, and by his brothers, Millard Corriher and Paul Corriher.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Timothy Corriher(Deb) and Steven Corriher; his daughter, Kimberly Karriker (Brian); his grandchildren, Matthew Corriher (Abby), Ashley Kalakore (Steven), Samantha Karriker, and Micaela Beck (Dustin); and his great-grandchildren, Addy, Carter, Millie, Emma, Liam, and one on the way.

Those who knew James will remember a man whose steady work ethic was matched by a genuinely kind heart. A devoted and loving presence, he gave of himself without hesitation—always ready to help, always willing to do what needed doing, and always offering the quiet reassurance that comes from being truly beloved. He was a tinker by nature, rarely without a project close at hand, whether working on cars or tending to the everyday fixes that keep a home running.

Just as memorable as his capable hands was the warmth he shared so freely. James was known for meeting others with a smile, for the simple comfort of a hug, and for the steady way he could make people feel at ease. He also had a silly sense of humor and a gift for conversation—if you stopped to talk, you could count on hearing a story or two, and you’d best have a while, because he could talk for hours. And in the small, unmistakably “James” moments, many will remember how much he loved salt water taffy—enjoying it in his own way, even taking out his teeth to do so.

A visitation will be held on August 28, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 4820 NC-152, China Grove, NC 28023, followed by a committal service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
