Salisbury-Jason Eugene Freeze, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, January 4, 2014. After a bravely fought battle with cancer, he passed away at his home, lovingly surrounded by his family. Born June 2, 1930 in Rowan County, Eugene was a son of the late Jason Leslie and Mary Kimball Freeze. A graduate of China Grove High School, Eugene was a lifetime member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church. As a member of the US Navy, he had served our country proudly during the Korean Conflict on board the USS Hamner. After retiring from Fiber Industries, he returned to work as a bus driver for special needs children in Rowan County, a job he dearly loved. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Eugene enjoyed camping and spending time with family at their mountain home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Leo, Walter and Raymond Freeze and sisters, Ruth Greeson and Frances Holshouser.
Family members left with cherished memories include his wife of 58 years, Peggy Joyner Freeze, who he married December 3, 1955; his son, Randy Freeze (Annette); and his daughter, Kathy Johnson, both of Salisbury; 3 grandsons, Chad Johnson (Laura), of Harrisburg, Jason Johnson of Kannapolis and Josh Johnson, Salisbury; four great-grandchildren, Ashton,Teagan, Logan and Alison; his sisters, Hazel Menius and his twin, Betty Sides (Earl), both of Salisbury.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 5th, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove, and be will at the residence at other times. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM Monday, at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Tallent and Rev. Kay Overcash. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites.
