Julia Dawn (Hauser) Shelton passed on June 30, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on July 6, 1945, Julia was the daughter of the late Irvin Roy Hauser and the late Julia Helen Apple Hauser. She was preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Lisa Lundkovsky, and her step grandson, Damian Davis.
Julia was married to David Benjamin Shelton on August 22, 1986, and they shared a long and happy marriage marked by devotion and steady companionship. Throughout her life, Julia’s kind heart and compassionate spirit were evident in the care she gave to others and in the gentle, faithful presence she offered to those who depended on her.
A devoted and faithful soul, Julia found meaning in the everyday moments that make a life rich. She loved playing her piano and violin, and she especially enjoyed classical music, including the 3 Tenors—Pavarotti was her favorite. She also delighted in simple pleasures and familiar places, and she loved Wal-mart so much that it was often said she should have owned stock in it. Fresh Market brownies were her all-time favorite; however, her homemade fudge put those to shame.
Julia found joy in the simple, enduring pleasures of life—camping, flower gardening, being outside, and spending time at the beach. She also had a deep love for animals, and over the years she welcomed many into her home, including dogs, cats, and even a canary that loved to sing. And one could not speak of her fondness for pets without mentioning Charlie the monkey. In all she did, Julia remained down to earth and wholesome, a beloved figure whose warmth and encouragement left a lasting impression on family and friends alike.
Julia’s faith in God, in the name of Yahshua Messiah, was everything to her. She did not like formal religion, but was a servant of the Lord and loved Him above everything. Her life reflected a steadfast devotion that inspired those around her, and her memory will continue to guide and comfort all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Martin D. Snyder Sr.; her daughters, Amy D. Snyder and Lorraine D. Curia (Daniel); stepsons, Michael Shelton and Gary Shelton; and her stepdaughter, Sheila Fragoso.
Julia is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Bethany Snyder, Elizabeth Snyder, Martin Snyder, Jr., Sophia Haskell, Isabella Haskell, Jenna Curia, and Claire Curia. Additional grandchildren include Vanessa Shelton, Tiffany Davis, Jessica Shelton, Jessica Shelton, Shanna Shelton, David Shelton, Jennifer Blackburn, and Lauren Blackburn.
A Graveside Service will be held on July 10, 2026, at 3:00 pm at West Lawn Memorial Park, 1350 S Main St, China Grove, NC 28023.
The family invites anyone that is attending the service to a meal after at Porky’s BBQ.
