

Kay Hester Crainshaw Nesbitt, age 89, of Kannapolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 9, 2026, from Compass Healthcare and Rehab in Spencer, NC. after a long battle with Dementia.
Kay was born March 5, 1937, in Cabarrus County, a daughter of the late George Dry Crainshaw & Velma Hester Freeze Crainshaw. In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her brother Terry Lane Crainshaw, Glenn Lee Crainshaw, her beloved husband of 69 years, Donald Wayne Nesbitt who preceded her in death May 26, 2026, and a son, Todd Lamar Nesbitt. Kay was a 1955 graduate of Winecoff High School and a lifelong resident of Kannapolis. She was a longtime member of Midway United Methodist Church where she served as secretary and treasurer of her Sunday School Class for many years and was active in the women’s missionary circles. Kay retired after 40 years as a loan officer at Wells Fargo. Kay was a wonderful example of a loving and thoughtful mother, devoted wife, and enjoyed spending time with her family, church family, friends and neighbors who she loved dearly. Kay’s favorite activity was faithfully attending every event her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in. The beach holds many cherished memories that Kay and Don made with their family through the years. They will both be sorely missed.
Those whom Kay leaves behind to cherish her memory include her two children, Eric Wayne Nesbitt (Jackie) of Salisbury, NC., and Chris Ryan Nesbitt (Lori) of Salisbury. She was well loved by her grandchildren ~ Bryson Nesbitt (Olivia) of Kannapolis, NC., Kennedy Nesbitt Link (Jesse) of Woodleaf, NC., Kinston Nesbitt (Raycia) of China Grove, NC., Gentry Nesbitt (Jordan) of China Grove, NC., Easton Nesbitt (Grace) of China Grove, NC., Landry Nesbitt Rivenbark (Isaac) of Salisbury, NC., Jantzen Nesbitt (McKenzie) of Lexington, NC., Katelyn Nesbitt (Ethan Young) of Kannapolis, NC., Caleb Nesbitt (Sydney) of Kannapolis, NC. Kay was blessed with nine great-grandchildren ~ Brynn, Jeb & Palmer Link; Rhett & Adeline Nesbitt; Beckham & Denver Nesbitt; Tucker Nesbitt; Declan Nesbitt. Kay also leaves behind a brother-in law, Ivan Nesbitt (Zinda) of Mooresville, NC
Her family will receive friends at Linn-Honeycutt China Grove from 5:00-7:00 PM.A funeral celebrating Kay’s home-going will be held on Thursday, August 20 at Linn-Honeycutt China Grove at 7:00 PM, with Pastor Steve Holshouser officiating. The burial will be on Friday, August 21st at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC at 10:00 AM.
