Larry Arthur York

Mr. Larry Arthur York, age 71 of Salisbury, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 8, 2021 at NOVANT-Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born March 12, 1949 in Mexico, Missouri, Larry was the son of the late Arthur Merl York and Nona Martha Harmon York. In addition to his parents, his sisters, Louise Bealmear and Vicki Crum, preceded him in death. He attended Friendship Baptist Church is Salisbury.

Larry spent his career as an electrician and when the economy weakened, he worked as a truck driver, traveling the country with his wife, Bonnie, who was his team driver for 15 years. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed woodworking and camping. His greatest joy came from his family and spending his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Diehl York; daughter, Michelle Vollmer (Dave) and sons, Michael York (Cheryl) and Arthur York (Stephanie). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Andrea York, Joshua York, Kayla Vollmer, Ashley Vollmer, Austin York, Hayley York, Mykala York and Isabelle Wolfanger, along with great-grandchildren, Colton Hamilton and Kaitlynn Hamilton. Also surviving him are two brothers, Alan York (Jody) and Doug York.

Celebration of Life Service for Larry will be on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 2:00pm at Friendship Baptist Church, 100 Porter Road, Salsibury, NC officiated by Pastor Jason Pierce. Aunt Bonnie, Michael. Michelle, and Arthur,
I was so sorry to hear of Uncle Larry's passing. While I didn't see him often, I recall him as a warm and kind person who seemed to always be smiling. May he rest in eternal peace and may God bless and keep you all.

Biography

Mr. Larry Arthur York was born on March 12, 1949 in Mexico, Missouri and was the son of the late Arthur Merl and Nona Martha Harmon York. He had 4 brothers and sisters; Louise, Alan, Vicki and Doug. Growing up, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and fixing cars. One of his main accomplishments as a youth was being named the paper carrier of the year for the Mexico Ledger. Larry graduated from Mexico Senior High School in 1967. His favorite class was shop class and favorite teacher was Miss Dallas Denier. His childhood friends were Mason Kelsey and Louie Frost and later in life, his best friends were Angus MacDonald and Mitchell Jones. On December 30, 1967 Larry married his wife Bonnie Louise Diehl in Mexico, Missouri. He and Bonnie had 3 children; Michelle, Michael and Arthur. Their grandchildren are Andrea, Joshua, Kayla, Ashley, Hayley, Mykala, Isabelle and Jeff. Great grandchildren are Colton, Kaitlynn, Alyssa and Shaun. He was a self employed electrician for many years and then later, became a truck driver, driving for 15 years with his wife Bonnie.. He enjoyed woodworking, but his real joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years, Larry attended multiple churches and was very interested in and participated in prison and jail ministries.

One of his most favorite vacations that he and Bonnie shared was an Alaskan cruise. He also loved the vacations with the grandchildren, as they were very special to him as well.

Larry enjoyed the company of his faithful companion, Shep, who was a collie mix. Shep was with him for 14 years. In 2014, Larry retired and moved to Salisbury, NC to be closer to his family. Larry passed away on February 8, 2021 at NOVANT- Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, NC due to complications he sustained from a fall.

His funeral service was held on February, 11, 2021 at Friendship Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC and was buried at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove, NC.
