

Taylorsville-Mable Shillinglaw Funderburk, formerly of China Grove/Landis, NC, passed away Wednesday morning, June 24, 2015, at Valley Nursing Home in Taylorsville. Born June 14, 1922 in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Marion "Doc" Shillinglaw and Bessie Spears Shillinglaw of China Grove. Mable enjoyed sewing for the public as well as baking and sharing her homemade goodies with others. She attended China Grove High School, had devotedly worked for 41 years at Linn Mill in Landis and was a member of Lutheran Chapel Church in China Grove. After her retirement, she worked for several restaurants in the South Rowan area, including Towel City Junction, Kannapolis, NC. In 2010, she relocated to Taylorsville to live with her son. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Infant Marshall, Otho (Mary) Shillinglaw of Visalia, CA and Earl (Marie) Shillinglaw of Salisbury, NC; sisters Dorothy (Luther) Goodman of Salisbury, Lois (Lynn) Smith of Mooresville, and Rachel (Boyd) Miller of China Grove; and the father of her children, Clarence Hoosier. Family members left with cherished memories include her sons Bernard Hoosier of Taylorsville, Leon (Barbara) Hoosier of Woodbridge, VA and Daniel (Taj) Hoosier of Florida; her daughter Becky (Randy) Van Gorder of Charleston, SC; sisters Mary Geneva Reavis and Evelyn S. Reavis, both of Salisbury; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 27, 2015, from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mrs. Funderburks life will begin at 12:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Rev. William V. Connelly, Pastor, Lutheran Chapel Church. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
