Myrtle Louise Wagner Elliott (age 97) passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024 while in the embrace of family. Born July 10, 1926, she was the daughter of Earl Leroy Wagner and Florence Cordelia Upright Wagner. She was educated in the Rowan County schools and retired from China Grove Cotton Mill (Dixie Yarns) in 1988 after 40 years of employment. Myrtle enjoyed retirement by spending time with family and friends and the occasional trip to California to visit her brothers and extended family.
Myrtle was most happy to be with her multi-generation grandchildren whom she absolutely adored. She showered them with love, cookies, and good home-cooked meals. It was no wonder that “Mamaw Myrtle” was among the first words spoken by them. She would also very frequently declare love for her favorite fur-baby, Bella.
Myrtle was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church and a charter member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church, both in China Grove. She loved gospel music and hymns and hearing the Word. Having lived in the immediate area all of her life, she is now rejoicing in Heaven in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
“Momma loved life. Her joy would brighten any room, and her love and words of encouragement and wisdom would lift the heaviest burden. Her house was a home because she was there, and in her presence it became a haven of comfort, even in the midst of life’s most threatening storms.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Carl William Elliott, with whom she shared her love and life in seventy-four years of marriage. Carl passed away in November 2017. Also preceding her in death include their son William David Elliott and grandson Matthew Daniel Elliott of China Grove; brothers Ralph Wagner, Jack Wagner, and Wesley Wagner of California; several more siblings from China Grove, brother Worth C. Wagner and Donald S. Wagner, sisters Lenolia Barnhardt, Kathleen Ballard, Veda Wagner, and Vonda Wagner.
Those left to cherish her memory, everlasting love, quick whit, laughter, flair for sharp dress and shopping, stories of family, and love for the Lord are daughters Sandra Louise Wise (Eddie) of Rockwell and Deborah Ann Raper (Garry) of China Grove; numerous grand, great, and great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; friend Gail Pethel and niece Beverly Williams who visited faithfully on Thursday afternoons, and her church family and pastors.
Graveside rites will be held on Wednesday, June 19th at 11:00 a.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove officiated by Rev. James Byers of New Hope Presbyterian and Dr. Jim Beard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice or New Hope Presbyterian Church, 602 Stevens Street, China Grove, NC 28023.
The family would like to thank Best of Care Assisted Living Center in Kannapolis, NC for the love and care they have given to their mother and to them as well since February 2024.
Comforting words and shared memories may be made to the family at www.linn-honeycutt.com
