Nancy Mack Flippin

Nancy Mack Ballard Flippin was born on December 9, 1936 to the late Curtis Fisher Ballard and Bernice Rae Maxwell Ballard in Raleigh, N.C. On Monday, September 14, 2026 at 3:30 a.m., from her home in Debary, Florida, Nancy went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by her loving family. She was 89 years old.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 26, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at South China Grove Baptist Church in China Grove, N.C. followed by the funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m. After the funeral, there will also be a graveside service at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove, N.C.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Debary, Florida on Saturday, October 17 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a meal following the service.

Nancy was a devoted Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Debary, where she served faithfully for 23 years. Over the years, she was an active member of other churches. She worked in the mission program, sang in the choir, served as Bible School director, lead women’s Bible studies, and assisted anywhere else they asked her.

Nancy graduated from Wadesboro High School in Wadesboro, NC in 1955. She was a guard on the girl’s basketball team, a majorette in the high school band, part of the Beta Club, and was chosen as Homecoming Queen her senior year.

After graduating from high school in 1955, Nancy entered the nursing training program at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte N.C. to become an R.N. After graduation on August 2, 1958, Nancy married the love of her life, Bruce Flippin on August 17, 1958. After their honeymoon, Nancy worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital until her and her husband Bruce decided to move to Concord, N.C. Nancy began a long career in nursing at the Cabarrus Memorial Hospital. She started as a surgical nurse in the operating room assisting doctors as they performed surgery. After several years, Nancy helped set up the intensive care unit and became nurse manager of that unit. In 1991, Nancy left Cabarrus Memorial Hospital and took a head nursing job at the VA hospital in Salisbury N.C. where she worked until she decided to take early retirement in 1993.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years, Bruce Flippin, Sister, Mrs. Joyce Gilmore, Sister, Mrs. Jane Rushing, Son, Alan Keith Flippin(Lisa), Daughter, Lori Ann Flippin Laughter(Bob), 5 grandchildren, and 13 great grand-children.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the exceptional care and support given by Gentiva Hospice of Volusia County. It enabled Nancy to pass away peacefully at home.
