Surrounded by the comfort of home and the love of a life richly lived, Patricia Mayhew Corriher, age 95, of China Grove, passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, service, and family that will be treasured for generations.
Born on February 3, 1930, in Norfolk, Virginia, Patricia was the beloved daughter of the late Chief Petty Officer Clarence Olin Mayhew and Sudie Miller Mayhew. As the daughter of a proud U.S. Navy serviceman, her childhood was shaped by movement and adventure, with homes in Norfolk, Charleston, San Diego, and Washington, D.C., before her heart ultimately found its home in China Grove, North Carolina.
Patricia attended China Grove Farm Life School and graduated from Catawba College in 1951. That same year, on July 28, she married the love of her life, Clyde Franklin Corriher, Sr. Together they shared 55 devoted years of marriage, building a life grounded in faith, education, and family, until his passing on October 25, 2006.
A lifelong member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, Patricia served her church faithfully in many capacities over the years. Her passion for language and creativity shone brightly in her long and respected career as an English and Art teacher at South Rowan High School, North Rowan High School, and Mooresville High School. She took great pride in the church and school drama productions she helped bring to life year after year.
As an only child, Patricia often joked that she entered marriage without knowing how to cook. Yet through patience, practice, and love, she became known as one of the finest cooks in the area, effortlessly feeding crowds of more than 200 people at a time. Whether through a lesson taught, a meal shared, or a role quietly filled, Patricia gave of herself generously and joyfully.
Her life’s greatest accomplishment was her family. Patricia leaves behind a remarkable legacy of 38 direct descendants, each carrying forward her values, her stories, and her love.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Clyde F. Corriher, her daughter-in-law Wanda Freeze Corriher and her son-in-law Earl Patterson Hall, Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Clyde Franklin Corriher, Jr., Scott Corriher (Mary), and Craig Corriher (Lori); her daughter, Susan Hall; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary, officiated by Pastor Jim Simonds. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Church of Christ – Preschool or General Fund, P.O. Box 1298 China Grove, NC 28023.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Patricia’s devoted caregivers—Kathy, Brookelyn, Stephanie, and Angela—for the exceptional love, kindness, and compassion they showed Mrs. Corriher and her family.
