Peggy Hunter Penley

Mrs. Peggy Rue Hunter Belk Penley, 81 of China Grove passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Kiser Hospice House. Born on August 24, 1935 in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Hood Hunter and Arnie “Sally” Propst Hunter. She was a 1953 graduate of China Grove High School, Erskine College in 1957, receiving her Bachler of Science in Home Economics, and her Masters in Home Economics from UNCG in 1977. She retired from Rowan Salisbury Schools as a teacher. She was a member of Eastern Star #277 and Friendship Baptist Church. Mrs Penley was a member of the Teachers Association and Special Vocations Association. She loved to go to Florida, to travel and enjoyed needlepoint , sewing and quilting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson Jamie Overcash.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Anthony “Tony” Belk (Karen) of Monroe, Sonji Belk Williams (Chuck) of Salisbury, Susan Belk Holshouser (Don) of Salisbury and Sallie Belk Lowe of China Grove.

Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Richard Lowe (Jacqueline), Russell Lowe III (Phylicia), Cheyenne Blount, Misty Billotto (Robert), Robbie Overcash (Carrie), Susan Overcash (Bubba), Christy Hargett, Michael Belk (Crystal), Amy Rogers (Jeff) and Amanda Guyer (Blake). Her great grandchildren are Quinton (Courtney), Dallas (Markayla), Alyssa, Chase, Keigan, Lochlyn, Chance, Journey, Kendell, Daily, Bradon, Kayleigh, Summer, Rilee, Faolan, Camryn, Adyson, Caleb, Leslie, Stella and Brantley. Her great great grandchildren are Brooklynn, Spencer, Abbriella and Jaymason.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 7:00 til 9:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with funeral services on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 2:30 pm also at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove, with Revs. Daniel Ramsey and Joe Sandifer, ministers. Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park.
