

Mrs. Rachel Virginia Towell Sechler, 93 of China Grove, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Cornelius. Born on February 24, 1922 in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Georgia Belle Foster Towell. She graduated from Landis High School in 1939. She was a longtime member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Nancy Fisher Circle and had served as a Sunday School teacher. She retired from Cannon Mills as a towel hemmer. Rachel was an active member of the Rowan Rose Society for over 40 years and shared her love for roses with everyone she knew. She served as an officer and was in charge of making artistic arrangement schedules for the rose shows. She won many awards for her arrangements and single flower entries. She also served as a tester of new roses for the Jackson Perkins Rose Company and was a consulting rosarian for 30 years from 1969 til 1999. She loved all roses but her favorite was “Peace”. She was a charter member of the Rowan- Salisbury Quilter’s Guild and attended the Sunny Days Quilters and was granted a lifetime membership in 2012.
Those left to cherish her memory is her husband Floyd Lee Sechler, daughter Judith S. Church (Bill ) of Cornelius, son Gary Lee Sechler of Kannapolis, grandchildren, Robbie Lee Sechler of Concord, Lorie S. Bare of Huntersville, Kary C Watson of Davidson, and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 12:00 til 1:00 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove with funeral at 1:00 also at the church with Rev. Mark Burns, minister. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion United Church of Christ New Construction Fund, P.O.
