OBITUARY

Ricardo Gonzalez

May 12, 1940July 18, 2020

Ricardo Gonzalez was born in Havana Cuba on May 12, 1940. During his time in Cuba, he and his younger sister, Miriam, were lovingly raised by their hard working parents Ricardo and Bartolome (Irene). When he was of age to work, after completing the 8th grade, Ricardo worked at a local pharmacy and delivered goods on his bike. He remained in Cuba until political unrest became the norm.

Upon settling in the United States, Ricardo enlisted in the Army and served fighting for the country he loved dearly. He met Sharon Burrous while stationed in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. They were married a year later. After his years of service, he trained as an apprentice and became a carpenter. Over the course of a few years, they had four children (Rick, Tammy, Scott, and David) and eventually settled in Naples, Florida. Ricardo’s family meant everything to him. He was truly a wonderful father and dedicated husband. His constant outpouring of love for his family and others were the evidence of his relationship with Jesus Christ. His love for life, his joyous laughter and warm heart for others are just a few of his many attributes.

When Ricardo wasn’t working on home projects or spending time with his family, you could always find him in deep study of the Bible in his prayer closet. Once he became a grandfather, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren on walks, swimming, fishing, and involving them in some of his woodworking projects. He always loved creating special memories with all of his thirteen grandchildren.

Once he reached his professional retirement, he and Sharon moved to Huntersville, North Carolina, and then to Mooresville, for additional family support. Although his memory was diminishing, his joy, his unending love, and his sweet spirit were always a constant. He went home to be with his Savior on July 18, 2020.

Ricardo Gonzalez is survived by his wife, Sharon; His sister Miriam Astiazarain (Ernesto); His children and their respective spouses, Rick Gonzalez (Cherie), Tammy Martinez (Roland), Scott Gonzalez (Amy), and David Gonzalez (Jennifer). Ricardo is also survived by his grandchildren, Caleb Gonzalez, Colby Gonzalez, Teagen Gonzalez, Marissa Pierce (Ryan), Mandy Martinez, Abi Martinez, Brianna Martinez, Cai Martinez, Lucas Martinez, Zoe Gonzalez, Levi Scott Gonzalez, Andrew Gonzalez, and Bradley Gonzalez.

I don't have a memory to share, but I have known Scott and David Gonzalez since their youth. They exemplify the integrity and character of Christ which their father imparted to them.

Bob and I send our love and prayers to all the family as you process this loss. The world will never seem the same without him.

Our love,

Scott Gonzalez is my great son-in-law. The first time I met his Dad, Ricardo, I knew instantly that he was a man filled with kindness, integrity and a genuine love of life, family and God. His smile and laugh were so infectious, and he made everyone feel welcome and at home. I knew he and Sharon would be great inlaws for my daughter, Amy, and that belief never faltered. They always included Amy as part of the family, and I'm so grateful for that. Rest in peace, dear man. You deserve the best heaven has to offer. Kari Daron

Ricardo was a God fearing and a God loving man. I’ve never seen anyone love God as much as he did. A great man that one day we will see again along with my dad. He was missed when he moved up north and will be missed even more that he’s with his maker. Sharon you had a winner. We love you and we pray that God guides you and your family through these hard times.
John 16:22
So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
God bless all of you.

I met Don Ricardo through Tammy and Roland and spending time with their family. Once he found out I spoke Spanish, he would only speak to me in Spanish, and I loved it. Every time I saw him at church or anywhere, he would have the biggest smile, shake my hand with both of his, and ask me how me and the family were doing. We could go months without seeing each other, and he would always remember me. He was such an enthusiastic, joyful man who genuinely cared about people. His love for his family was evident, and he was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He and his contagious smile will be missed

I met Ricardo the day my son, Ryan, and Ricardo’s beautiful granddaughter, Marissa, got engaged last year. He was the sweetest, most loving man I’d ever met! His smile lit up his whole face! When I think of him now, that is how I see him in heaven; smiling down on his loved ones!

Ricardo will always be in my memory the most precious , kind , loving , caring , gentle , enthusiastic man I have ever known. To say he was just my brother in law is not telling the entire story. Our family loved him from the very moment we first met him way back in the sixties and it will never diminish. I wish we could be there with you all at this time.
Forever thankful for you all , my precious family. Janet
