Born on December 11, 1928, in Union County, North Carolina, Sarah was the fourth of seven children of the late Thomas Guy Coan and Estaline King Coan. She proudly graduated from Winecoff High School in Concord, Class of 1945.
On February 3, 1948, she married Joe Dudley Roberts of Landis. The two shared many wonderful years of marriage until his passing on April 14, 2000.
Sarah was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury. Prior to this, she and Joe were faithful members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis.
Sarah dedicated much of her professional life to the accounting department at BF Goodrich Corporation in Salisbury, where she worked from 1977 until her retirement in 1994. She was widely known among family and friends as an exceptional cook and baker, renowned for her fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and chocolate meringue pie—dishes that became cherished family traditions.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sarah was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul Burris Coan and James Thomas Coan; her sisters, Ruth King Coan Nash, Pattie Lee Coan Overcash, and Carole Joyce Coan Oliver; her nephew, David Anthony “Tony” Overcash and a great-nephew, Ramsey Nash Link.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Janie Roberts Rollins and her husband, Michael, of Salisbury; her sister, Rachel Delette Coan Holleman and her husband, Earl, of Concord; her brother-in-law, Chuck Oliver of Landis; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Coan of Grove City, Ohio, and Mary “Pug” Kepley Coan of Salisbury; as well as ten nieces and nephews and their families.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her longtime primary care physician, Dr. Bethany South of Novant Rowan Family Physicians; her dedicated in-home health aide since 2017, Diana Goodman with Tenderhearted Homecare; and Dr. Chet Amin and the compassionate staff at Novant Health Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
A Memorial service will be held in the Chapel at St. John's Lutheran Church in Salisbury on June 17, 2026 at 3:00 PM. A private burial will take place at a later date.
