

Mrs. Shirley Elizabeth Cook Torrence Flowers, age 84 of Kannapolis, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. Born December 19, 1935 in Anson County, Mrs. Flowers was the daughter of the late Fred Cook and Virginia Price Cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Steve O. Torrence (1969) and William C. Flowers (2002), as well as her brother, Wade Hampton Cook and sister, Annie Jane McCombs. She attended McGill Baptist Church in Concord.
In her later years, Shirley worked in the floral business. She loved traveling to the mountains and enjoyed going to the beach where she would go deep sea fishing. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and going out to eat! She loved visiting farms, where she would pick her own fruit and vegetables.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cynthia Torrence and her two grand dogs, Gus & Annie, whom she loved so much. Several nieces who helped care for her, Sylvia Groce (Rick), Lisa Simpson, (Mark), Teresa Sharp and Scarlet Rector. She also leaves behind her great niece, Courtney Kerley, who was her caregiver, as well as her great nephew, Charlie Groce and his family and great niece, Kayla Simpson and her family. She also leaves behind her sisters in-law, Gloria Cook and Pat Piner and brother in-law, Joseph Flowers.
A Graveside Service for Shirley will be on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at 2:00 pm at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove with Pastor Steve Ayers, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested you kindly remember Shirley with memorials in her honor to McGill Baptist Church, 5300 Poplar Tent Road, Concord, NC 28027 or Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
