Rockwell, NC
In the early morning hours of August 15th, the body of Mary Unav Moore breathed its last breath. She wasn’t alone, her family was by her side as the final stages of dementia stole the remains of a life left unlived!
More than 20 years earlier, this beautiful, intelligent and kind woman with so many talents which included masterful sewing and quilting, stained glass art, ceramics, photography, cooking and baking started to withdraw from these many things she loved. In the early stages Unav had the ability to hide the symptoms of her mental decline. But as she withdrew, it became obvious to the family she loved and protected like a mama bear, that something was terribly wrong. Hands that were once busy and the voice that once soothed, taught and lovingly corrected her children became silent as her mind was taken from her.
Unav always loved reading and learning. After graduating from Franklin High School in 1953, she was selected for a secretarial position at the Van Raalte Hosiery mill in Franklin, NC. She later attended Blanton’s Business College in Asheville, NC after which she became office manager for American Silk Label in Canton, NC. As her schedule permitted, she also attended Haywood Community College where she was able to perfect the hobbies she enjoyed so much, never neglecting the needs of her family and creating a warm and loving home. She was in the fullest sense of the word, a lady, that always carried herself with dignity and grace. She was a dedicated mother who loved and supported her children in every way. She attended their many activities no matter where it took her nor how cold or rainy it was.
Unav is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bobby K. Moore, who died in 2018 and daughter, Teresa Lynn Moore, who died in 2019, her parents Ray M. and Vernie L. Sanders, a brother, David Griggs, and sisters, Gladys G. Best, Edith G. McConnell and Faye S. Wood.
She is survived by her brother, Bennie H. Sanders (Jean) of Franklin, NC, sons, Phillip K. Moore (Kelley) of Waynesville, NC and Johnny R. Moore (Betty) of Lexington, SC and daughter, Patricia L. Moore of Salisbury, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Susan M. Partridge (Josh), Amanda M. Curtis (Brian), Matthew Moore (Kim), Zachary Moore (Jeannie) and great-grandchildren, Charleigh, Liam and Anah Partridge, Thomas and Sean Spencer, Colt, Wyatt, Adeline and Wade Moore.
So, for now Dear Mom, take a well deserved rest from your labors until the time that Jesus Christ says “RISE!” and then enjoy life as Our Grand Creator intended!
Due to COVID-19, a private service will be held with Inurnment at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested you kindly remember Unav with memorials in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org.
