Mrs. Clara “Willene” Husband Lawrence, went to Heaven early in the morning on Monday, August 9, 2021. There was a constant stream of gospel music, scriptures, prayers, and love from her family in her final battle with the cancer she had lived with for 3 years. Born in Charlotte, NC, she called the surrounding area home for all of her life. In addition to her parents, Bill and Clara Husband, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, James “J.T.” Hughes.
With a wonderfully creative mind and exemplary work ethic, she used her artistic gifts in so many ways throughout her careers, hobbies, and loving service to others. In 1977, she became a Christian – fully placing her faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for her salvation. She loved Jesus passionately; she loved others as herself. Willene and Allen were just settling into their membership at Central Baptist Church in Kannapolis before the recent pandemic hit. They attended every opportunity they could and watched faithfully when they could not.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 38 years, Allen Lawrence; her three children, Ashlie Miller (Chad) of Concord, Dustin Hughes (Michelle) of Clyde, and Paige Tennant (Adam) of China Grove. She also leaves behind her twelve grandchildren along with her sister, Sherry Welch (Steve) and her brother, Bill Husband, both of Charlotte.
Visitation for Willene will be on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. Funeral Service will be on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 1:00pm at Central Baptist Church in Kannapolis officiated by Pastor Chad A. Miller, Pastor Dean Hunter, Rev. Flip Benham and Rev. Doug Barber. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00pm prior to the service. Graveside Service will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you kindly remember Willene with generous donations to either of the two Gospel-focused ministries: Love Life Charlotte online at lovelife.org/donate or by mail at P.O.
