

Mr. William Lee Sims 86 of Concord passed away on Tuesday February 28, 2012 at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Concord. Born on May 31, 1925 in St. Augustine, Florida, he was the son of the late Willie Lee and Alma Sims. He was educated in the Charleston SC schools and later received his accounting degree from Evans Business College. He served in the US Navy during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific. He was a longtime member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove where he served as a Sunday School teacher for 50 years, and various committees and leadership roles. Mr. Sims was also acitve in the Eureka Masonic Lodge. Mr. Sims was Vice President of Willis Hosiery Mills and retired after 38 years of service. After his retirement he volunteered for the next 20 years with the Cabarrus County Senior Center in tax preparation for the elderly and underpriveledged.
Those left to cherish his memories is his wife of 64 years, Bonnie Correll Sims and daughters, Crystal Sossoman and husband Jeff of Mooresville and Corrella Sims Moran of Concord. He is survived by a brother, Newton Sims of
John's Island, SC, and a sister Beulah DeLoach of Tybee Island, Ga. Grandchildren include Simon Sossoman, Ariel, Sarah, and Joshua Moran.
Visitation will be on Friday from 1:30 til 3:00 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, with the funeral immediately following at the church with Rev. Mark Burns, minister. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mt. Zion United Church of Christ 1415 South Main St. China Grove, NC 28023.
